Crave visceral communion with fear, think watching horror movies helps mitigate your personal fears, then go see IT. Prepare to be lulled, you are in your living room watching an 80's miniseries. Raining, small town, shot in 480p,if you'd watched the origin version,at this point you're almost saying to the director "and your point---isn't a remake/reinmagining supposed to bring us something new, make us feel different?" Like BladeRunner2049 will. Suddenly the little boat has disappeared, you feel like you've been run over by a bus,and in my case, fighting the urge to bolt. Which may be amusing, but for me at 64,it is a novel feeling, having usally avoided this genre.I'd watched the Final Destination series wherein I'd found a lot of humor, but drawn the lie at movies like SAW,for me,not going to happen. Big Steven King fan, own most of his movies, watched some several times,especially11,22,63 ,Kingdom Hospital, and The Mist.Sporadically I'll hear"Don't fear the reaper' and need to watch The Stand one more time. In that spirit,I went in ,with the attitude of "Hey it's Steven King." Most of his horror is implied and left to the imagination. Having recently watched the mini-series version, said to myself,"How bad could this be,I know what's going to happen!" Turns out IT can be very bad, there are scenes that will still jolt me in rewatching, one more in particular had me once again ready to flee, but it would not affect all equally, depends on if you prefer cats to children. Want to see some nostalgic pre Hallowe'en horror? Pays grim homage to teenage angst, camaraderie, and the firm reslove of nerds that allows them to parlay their techskills and collective anger into becoming an entity better than the world that shunned them deserves. LOTR with the cast of Goonies. The running commentary by Finn Wolfhard of Stranger Things made this movie for me,I think we'll see a lot of him in the future.
